Today’s postcard is a little bit out of the ordinary.
Rather than feature my own photos and stories, today I want to share something very cool from a whole series of music video New Mexico postcards that I accidentally discovered.
Nacha Mendez is the star of this video, with Museum Hill in Santa Fe as the gorgeous backdrop. (Check out my own Postcard from New Mexico about the Museum of International Folk Art, one of the places to visit on the hill.)
Nacha is a true New Mexico treasure. In 2018, she received a New Mexico Platinum Music Lifetime Achievement Award, and she was voted Best Female vocalist in Santa Fe, New Mexico in 2009 and 2010.
Nacha’s unique voice and guitar have been captivating audiences in the Santa Fe area and beyond for many years now. I once had the joy of watching her play at El Farol, a bar and tapas restaurant steeped in history, located at the top of Canyon Road. I’ll never forget her presence… I imagined the spirit of Frida Kahlo coming to life through Nacha’s resonant voice.
Enjoy Nacha and her trio offering of “Angel en la Esquina” and feel the soul of Northern New Mexico.
Wish you were here!
I can imagine being in the room with her singing would be thrilling. Beautiful voice and singing, and tremendous charisma.
It’s like if KD Lang sang Spanish. I love this & Im so glad you shared a voice so beautiful.
