Dear friends,
I had intended to send a Postcard to you today, following the usual two-Sundays-a-month schedule, but it’s been a rough week here in my hometown. On Thursday night, someone threw a large rock on the windshield of my car and unsuccessfully tried to steal it. I spent all day Friday dealing with the damage — and being reminded of how many good people are in my town, a theme I wrote about in this April postcard.
I was just settling down after all that when in the wee hours of Saturday morning someone threw a rock through my living room window.
I am okay, my pup Lucy is okay. There were a number of other acts of vandalism in my neighborhood that night, so I don’t believe I was targeted. It just happens my house sits fairly close to the road and I don’t have a fence or gate in the front (which may change soon). But as you can imagine, this has been very unsettling.
In the midst of all of it, more human goodness came through. These two kind souls from my neighborhood, Dennis and Scott, showed up at my house at 7:30 am on Saturday to help board up the window and secure things until I can get it replaced.
There were so many other acts of kindness that day, if I had more energy I’d write you about them. But it’s a reminder that goodness and light are a stronger force than whatever delusions drive some troubled folks to do what they did on Thursday and Friday night. That’s what I’m willing myself to focus on these days.
May you be well, and I’ll see you with another Postcard from New Mexico soon.

It's always unsettling when things like this happen and disturb our sense of security, particularly at our home. I'm glad you have such good friends and neighbors there. As Mr Rogers said, When bad things happen, look for the helpers. Obviously you are blessed with quite a few there.
So sorry that happened but glad it was balanced by neighborly goodness 💕
